SINGER-SONGWRITER, MEME MYATT
...has built a reputation not only as a musical artist who masterfully intersects both style and substance in her vocal performances and original compositions, but also through her astute, self-assured interpretations of classic tunes by legendary artists who influenced her.
Recognizing her natural vocal abilities early on, MeMe’s parents gifted her with a Fisher Price Tape Recorder at the tender age of 5. Three years later she would pen her first original tune entitled, “Somedays” – a mid-tempo love song, expressing how easily one’s worries go away when thinking about the people they love. The Inglewood-raised songstress’ professional experience began at 16, when she performed regularly in and around Southern California, where she was formally trained and active in talent pageants and vocal competitions through which she honed her craft as a musical performer. MeMe reinforced her reputation as a versatile vocalist through community performances for her city’s mayor, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, and other dignitaries. While still in high school, she led the local neo-soul collective For Those with Soul, and formed the Freestyle Café, an outlet for other young performers.
In Boston, where she graduated from its prestigious Berklee College of Music, MeMe furthered her artistry as a vocal principal, music education major and performer in various local venues. She co-founded, sang lead and background, as well as wrote original music for Mélange, a multi-genre musical group. She would then move on to create and front her own highly praised R&B/Soul & Classic Rock ensemble, Melissa Myatt & the Chase, which would earn a loyal following throughout the city. To culminate her graduating cum laude, MeMe was chosen to grace the stage with the likes of Carole King, Annie Lennox, and Willie Nelson for Berklee's 2013 Commencement Concert.
In addition to leaving a lasting imprint with her talents domestically, MeMe also left her mark abroad. While in Athens, Greece, MeMe appeared to be right at home serving as lead and background singer of On Stage – one of Athens only classic soul bands – mesmerizing Mediterranean audiences with the seamless, sultry, universal appeal of her vocal talents.
MeMe has also written and produced two EPs, Defined (2011) and Caution: Love (2016) – available on all major streaming platforms – as well as acted as the composer and music supervisor for the indie film, Walter Walks With God (2017). Within the last year, MeMe has released three new singles, “No Rush”, “Somebody’s Somebody”, and “IMYFG (I Make You Feel Good)” – all showcasing the versatility of her songwriting and true vocal talent. Her latest single, “Stingy” will prove to do the same – making first time listeners die-hard fans who will all agree it’s what MeMe does best: writing and singing soon-to-be classic songs!
